Perspective

LI: To evaluate the facts and make an informed opinion.

For this activity we used a provacation to answer a question. This question was Did the punishment fit the crime. This question relates to two men who stole 96 war medals from the National Army Museum in 2007. He is serving 13 year and 3 months imprisonment.  Our perspective A say about why we think the punishment was the easy and our perspective B say about why we think the punishment is to hard.

I found this activity interesting because I looked at two different perspectives for a question.

 

Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find the story behind this picture

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that shows where this lighthouse is and what the story is behind the image. We found out that the Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument is a lighthouse in Frace near Brittany coast. What happened was that the ower of the lighthouse Theodore was in his lighthouse when the waves started crashing into the lighthouse. He saw the helecopter circleing around the lighthouse in fear he rushes into the lighthouse saving himself.

I found this activity interesting because I was interesting in what might of happened to the person.

Inchcape Rock

LI: To find and summarise the story behind the poem

 

No sound of the wind nor any movement of  waves. The sound of the bell didn’t move through the water. Abbot Abrothok placed the bell to warn danger to sailors. When the sailors heard the bell they praised Abbot Abrothok. It was a bright and joyful day with overjoyed birds. Sir Ralph walked on his deck spotting the Inchcape bell. Sir Ralph was happy, he sang and whistles with joy. He looked at the buoy and put his boat down. The ship lowered as Sir sliced the inchcape bells rope. The bell sank into the depths of the deep sea. Sir Ralph the rover then sailed away to Scotland shore. The sky was the and the winds hath died away. The dawn has arrived and there is no sudden sunlight. There’s no sound of the inchcape bell in the sea. They hear siglent waves and crashes into the inchcape rock. He curse to himself as the waves crashed around the boat. He knows that he would go beneath the deep sea.

Our challenge was to unpack the story behind the 17 verses of the poem Inchcape Rock by Robert Southy. The part I found interesting was where Sir Ralph sailed in the dark because I was interested in what might happen next.

I found this activity interesting because each verse of the poem gives me a riddle to solve that is happening in the verse.

 

History Site Construct

 LI: To learn about New Zealand History.

For Reading we discovered the History site of New zealand and what happened here. We had cards to pick and discover about that place and what happend. We chose the card construct, we learnt that houses from back then used to be not enough for families and the New zealand Government helped to build the houses for the families. Houses back then were not good, bathrooms were outside and weren’t connected into the house. They built seven houses and one of the houses was the Patterson family’s house. They built over 8,000 houses for families who were struggling to find houses big enough for their family. Even built a path to connect with the other families so they could get along. 

I found this activity intresting because it tell me all about the history of New Zealand and what happened at in the past of New Zealand.

 

 

Main Ideas

LI: To identify the main ideas in the text

This week we have been learning how to find and collaboratively decide on the main idea in a text by negotiating. We read the text Lester and Clyde. This was a text about the consequences of pollution. Our group think the main idea was to not pollute the environment because it affects other species. 

We found this activity interesting because as a group we collaborated and share each others ideas.

Podcast

I completed a podcast about the good things and the bad things about the space shuttle.

First reserched about the good things and the bad things about the shuttle orbiter. The bad thing that happend to the shuttle orbiter is that it crashed 2 times.

Next, we wrote notes on a google docs to remember what to say. I wrote down the bad thing about the shuttle orbiter.

Then we recorded our group saying our lines for the recording.

I enjoyed recording. I did well on finding the information. I need to improve on find out more information about the crash.

Synthesising

I learnt what synthesising is .

Synthesising is a strategy to help undetstand texts. Synthesising means using your prior knowledge to get new information and new understanding of the text.

The story I did as a group was the 3 billy goat gruff.

I enjoyed this task because I got to learn what synthesising. I need to improve on understanding what synthesising means more. I did well at understanding the story of the 3 billy goat gruff.

Visualising

Visualising is understanding the text by creating a clear image in your head.

Visualising is to help people understand the text. For eg: I read a book which say that there are 10 boy playing in the playground and 5 boys playing tags. What I get a clear read of that I will have an image showing that there are 10 boy playing in the playground and 5 boys playing tags

Visualising helps people create understand the text by creating an images in their head.

Question Answer Relationship

I learned what question answer relationship is.

First I learned what the 4 different types of question is. They are right there, think and search, author and me, and on my own. Right there is when the answer in the text is right in the text. Think and search is when the answer is in different places. Author and me is when there are clues in the text  to figer out the answer with your prio knowlage. On my own is when you only use your own prio knowlage to figer out the answer.

Next we read a story and there were 4 question to answer. One of those 4 questions go in each types of questions. When I finish putting the question and answer for each catogory I went to go check the answer with Mr Wong to see if I got the answer correct and the catogory correct. I got auther and me and on my own correct but I got right there and think and search wrong. I got the answer for right there wrong to.

I enjoyed answering the questions though it was hard. I did well on geting at least one catogory correct. I need to improve on finding out the answer for right there and think and search  because the answer is in the text and it is very confusing on which one is right there and which one is think and search.

 

Evaluating

I learned on how to Evaluate.

First I learned on what Evaluating is. Evaluating is two sides of an argument.

Next I read about a crowded swimming pool and found out the reasons if its dangeroures or not. I chose drowning which is dangoures.

Lastly I wrote my opinion on why its dangourus or safe.

I enjoyed writing my opinion. I did well on writing my opinion. I need to improve on evaluating.
