SLJ Narwhals: Unicorns of the sea – Kick Start

For this Summer Learning Journey activity we found facts about narwhals and designed a poster about the narwhal. The fact that I found the most interesting is how narwhals spend and entire month underwater. This is why these creatures are rarely seen in the wildlife.  I created this narwhal by colouring the image they provided.

I found this activity interesting because I found the facts about narwhals interesting to read.

SLJ Cartoon Collectables – Step it up

For this Summer Learning Journey activity we created a cartoon collectable card based on an underwater sea creature. My collectable card I designed was a clownfish named Nemo from the movie Finding Nemo. The background is a coral reef because that is the clown fish’s enviourment.

I found this activity entertaining because it was interesting to find way to make it look like a cartoon charater from Finding Nemo.

SLJ Japanese Puffer Fish – Kick Start

For todays Summer Learning Journey activity we learnt about the Japanese pufferfish and created and designed our own one. The Japanese pufferfish is very unique unlike other types of pufferfish. The male Japanese pufferfish creates sand art designs to attract female pufferfish. If the famle pufferfish isn’t attracted then a spy pufferfish will come and step in as an artist assistant.

I found this activity interesting because I found out interesting and mind-blowing facts about the Japanese pufferfish.

SLJ “Wanted” Feared Fish – Step it up

For this step it up activity I created a Lionfish as my warning sign. I think that this creature is pretty and unique with bright colours that drag us in towards their trap for having such a stunning appearance. It is deadly and poisonous and they are mostly colours in bright orange or red with lots of fins with splodges.

I found this activity interesting because I got to find out more and interesting facts about this unique Lionfish.

SLJ Origami Fish – Step it up

For this summer learning journey activity we created a origami koi fish. These are 3 different coloured origami fish in the image above. This origami was the hard 3d version of the 2d kick start version.

2 facts I found interesting about origami was:

  1. Origami was first in China for the 1st or 2nd century but it came to Japan in the 6th century.
  2. Tradition origami only uses square paper with not cutting or rectangle pieces.

I found this activity fun and interessting because I got to fold a piece of origami I really enjoyed and I found the facts above very interesting to read.

SLJ “Wanted” Feared Fish – Kick Start

For this summer learning journey activity I completed the “Wanted” Feared Fish Kick Start activity. This is a recreation of a stonefish and it is extremely dangerous and known for camoflaging itself with the coral as a stone. They are found in the shallow waters of the Indo – Pasific Ocean.

Some facts that I found interesting were:

  1. They are the most venomous fish in the world.
  2. They can survive up to 24 hours in water.
  3. They can strike their prey up to 0.015 seconds.

I found this activity interesting and fun because I learnt about the stone fish and I got to design a stone fish.

Modern Olympic Research

LI: To use our smart searching skills to help us explore the Modern Olympic games

LI: To work collaboratively in groups as an active participant and contributor

Our challenge was to research about the Modern Olympics by working as a group together. We reaserched and found information from articals and texts. On our presentation we found out information about the Olympic Creed, Motto, Values, Rings and Oath including some information for the questions we answered. We found a person who showed great sportsmanship from the New Zealand team and the Great Britain team where the person in the Great Britain team surpassed the person from New Zealand. Later on after the competition the person from the New Zealand team came and congratulated the person from the Great Britain team showing he showed great sportsmanship.

I found this activity exciting because I found out about how time has evolved from the Ancient Olympics to the Modern Olympics.

Information Report Bengal Swamp Tiger

LI: to write an information Report that informs the read about the swamp tiger.

We used our smart searching skills to find out facts about Bengal Swamp Tigers. When we found out facts and information we made notes about their diet, habitat, behaviour, and appearance. We used the notes to write the information report. Information report gives readers information about a chosen topic by providing them with facts.

Swamp Tigers are animals that are really hard to find which makes them very mysterious. Their scientific name is Panthera Tigris Tigris and they lived in the islands of India and Bangladesh. Did you know that in different countries the Swamp Tigers have different names.

Swamp tigers have an orange body with black stripes and a white belly. They have pointed teeths, long whiskers and strong paws. An adult Swamp Tiger could weigh up to 420 pounds.

Swamp Tigers are carnivores. ( which means they only eat meat ). They eat Wild boars , crabs, fish, rats, frogs, Chital (deer), otters , turtles , Fishing cats , wild pigs and even Humenbeings! Their behavior makes them protective over their territory which makes them big predators over their land.

Swamp tigers mostly live in Mangrove Forest which is a place in India and Bangladesh called Sunderban. They like to live in a warm and wet place. Some swamp tigers left their trances around Myanmar, China, Bhutan and Nepal. Do you think that these creatures only live in Sunderban?

Did you know swamp tigers are unsocial animals? Many of them live alone and some of them live in a small group. They are also excellent swimmers and a good hunter at night.

Because people keep taking the habitat from the swamp tiger. Now they have become an endangered species. Do you think that people should stop taking the land from swamp tigers ?

Swamp Tigers

LI: To create a multi-modal DLO that tells others about swamp tigers.

For this task our challenge was to reaserch about swamp tigers and find information about these animals. Using websites and videos we made a list of notes about what the swamp tigers appearance, diet, habitat and behaviours are. These Swamp Tigers have orange fur with black stripes and, white belly. It mostly eats wild boars and are only found at a place called Sunderban. It is really protective over their territory as many fishermen get killed by these swamp tiger every year which depends if you enter its territory.

I found this activity interesting because there were little information about the Swamp Tiger as it is rarely seen.
