My Pepeha

LI: To write and say our Pepeha

A pepeha is a greeting that welcomes or introduces yourself to other people. To help us get to know each other we have written our pepehas. This helps us make connections, grow or strengthen our friendships.  This pepeha explains where I am from, when my ansestors came, my grandparents, and where I grew up. This give the visitors a full greeting about myself and my family.

I found this activity interesting because I learn how to speak my pepeha in a different language.

Brochure

LI: To remember and give information about Kokako Lodge.

After camp, we created a brochure about information and highlights about our experiences at Kokako Lodge. We used our persuasive skills and gave reasons to why our audience would want to go. We used pictures to show what it is like at Kokako Lodge and what they have to offer.

I found this activity interesting because I got to tell everyone how amazing Kokako lodge is.

Kauri Dieback

LI: To gather statistics and protect the Kauri Tree from getting the Kauri Disease.

The following week after camp we did a research about the Kauri Dieback. Then we created a DLO about the Kauri Disease on how we can prevent it from destroying our nature. Though we can do things such as spraying your shoe at the kauri dieback station to stop the disease from killing our tree.

I found this activity interesting because I learned more things about the kauri dieback

Research about Scurvy

LI: To understand what a balanced diet looks like and why it is important for human health.

For our first Inquiry topic for Term 2 we did a study about what a scurvy is, how can people get affected, and what can we do to avoid it. We wrote did you know facts to help us be able to learn about scurvy such as, Did you know that Scurvy can cause gum bleeding? Scurvy is caused by lack of Vitamin C for at least 3 months. It was mostly common for pirates/sailors.

I found this activity intresting because I get to learn more about Scurvy.

What is a River?

LI: To identify and describe the features of the Tamaki River

This week we have been learning about what rivers are, their unique attributes and how to label them. We then created a DLO about the Tamaki river and its history. Did you know that the Tamaki River is an esturial arm. Using our knowledge that we acquired, we showcased the features of the Tamaki river using an aerial map. We then compared the Tamaki River with a prominent river in the world. Our group chose to look at the Nile River. The Nile river is the longest river in the world that travels through 11 countries!  Finally we made a comparison of the two rivers.

We found this activity fun and very intresting because we learned a lot about the Tamaki river and the Nile river.

Treaty of Waitangi

LI: To explore the world in 1840 and the art of the Treaty

This week we looked at what the world was like in 1840. Did you know that the oldest photo known was taken in 1840. After this we identifiend some of the key people and their roles in the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. I found it interesting because Hone Heke was the first person to sign the Treaty of Waitangi. We then used the information from both of these activities to help us read a painting of the day the treaty was signed. We used our knowledge to infer what the artist Marcus King might have wanted us to think was happening. I found this really interesting because I learned that the picture was painted by Marcus King in 1938.

Design Transportation.

I wrote an explanation about my design of transportation.

First I finished my labels on my DLO to complete my design. My transportation was land and air transport. I combined a car with a police helicopter.

Next I wrote an introduction and explained why I designed this vehicle. I designed it because sometimes the police helicopters can lose a criminal in a tunnel so they can land anywhere and chase the criminal in the long tunnel.

I enjoyed designing my vehicle. I did well on combining the 2 vehicles. I need to improve on knowing the information that I made.

Custom Vehichle Design

I created a custom vehichle  with a submarine and a plane.

First had a cons and pros slide and found cons and pros for the 4 modes of transport. The 4 modes of transport is land, rail, sea, and air. We had 2 of each vehichle for the each mode of transport.

Next we had to create a custom vehichle using the 4 modes of transport. I chose 2 mode of transport which is sea and air. The vehichle that I combined is a plane and a submarine. We chose that because most planes crash in the water so we made a design is when the plane crashes it will turn into a submarine underwater.

I enjoyed making the design, I did well on finding out what mode of transport to combine. I need to inprove on finding the pros and cons.

Modes of Transport

I learned what modes of transport are.

First we had four categories which were air, land, sea, and rails. In those categories we had to categories some vehicles that go on land, air, rails, and sea. For eg: the vehicles that  go on land are vans bus and more. Before we went on to our task as a class we brainstormed about some vehicles that go on air, sea, land, and rails.

Next we had to find a picture and write what you know about it. You had to choose pictures for each category. For Air I chose hot air balloon, for Sea I chose Cruiser, for land I chose a Truck, and for rail I chose a train. When we finish writing what you know about that vehicle on a slide we had to explain about what is transportation. Transportation are vehicles to carry objects on land that carry objects or humans around the world.

I enjoyed finding the beautiful pictures. I did well on knowing some information about the vehicle i chose. I need to improve on being specific when i am explaining what transportation is.

Skit

I learned what a skit is.

First I came up with a brainstorm about morals. We wrote morals like Never judge a book by its cover, Stay safe online, and many more. Morals are short sentences that tells lessons. For ex: ‘Once a wolf always a wolf’ is a moral and it tell a lesson. That means, once evil is always evil. The lesson we choose is Stay safe online.

Next we wrote our plan on what to do in the movie and the script on what we are going to say. Our plan was that, while a girl was playing a game, a link came up. The girl pressed the link and got hacked. That was the plan for the moral  ‘stay safe online’.

I enjoyed coming up with the script. I did well on finding the moral. I need to improve on understanding what the morals mean.
