Multiplication Algorithm – 1 Number

LI: To multiply whole numbers using algorithms.

For this task I revised on how to do multiplication algorithm with 1 Number. Algorithm is form of way to solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems. To solve this problem on the DLO you align the numbers ones with ones. Multiply the ones and the ones which is 15. put the 5 under the ones and carry the 1 to the next value. Then multiply the ones and tens which equals to 3. Add the 3 and the 1 you carryed over together. Both equals to 4 so you put the 4 under the tens place.

I found this activity interesting because I tried to find out how to explain, solving multiplication algorithm

Subtraction Algorithm – (with 0)

LI: To calculate the difference of  whole numbers, using algorithms.

LI: To subtract using algorithms.

For this task I revised and explained how to subtract numbers with 0 using algorithm. Algorithm is a form of way to solve addition subtraction and multiplication equations. In the example on the DLO there is a 0 in ten tens place and you need to subtract the by 4. 0-4 does not work so you borrow from the next value which is the hundred and the number 4. You then lower that value by one and put that onto the 0 which make the 0 into a 10. Go back to the value you borrowed which is 4 and turn that into a 3 because you borrow one number from that value. 10-4 equals to 4 and that’s how you get your number if you have to subtract by 0.

I found this activity enjoyful because I revised and explained how to subtract by 0 using algorithm.

Subtraction Algorithm

LI: To calculate the difference of  whole numbers, using algorithms.

LI: To subtract using algorithms.

For this task I revised on subtraction algorithm without zeros. Algorithm is a form of way to solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication. For subtraction algorithm you also start from the right where the ones place is and start subtracting there.8-3 equals to 5 so that goes under the ones value. you then subtract 4-5 but you can’t so you borrow from the next value and take one. you then combine that 1 and 4 which become 14. When you borrow from the next value you decrece the number by one so the 6 becomes a 9. You then subtract 14 and 5 which makes 9 so you put that under the tens value and continue to the thousands and hight value.

I found this activity enjoyful because I revised and explained how to do subtraction algorithm without 0.

Care Awards Attitude

I complete this care award task for attitude which is to research about someone who has a positive attitude dispite the difficulty’s they have faced. The person I chose was Maya Angelou. Maya Anglou grew up in a broken house and her parents were divorced. She became traumatized and decided to never talk again in worries that she might harm someone. She overcame her fear of talking in a few years and started her life as a poet. She starts to change other peoples lives with her meaningful quotes and becomes proud of herself for never giving up her dream.

I found this activity interesting because I researched about a person with a difficult past life only to make her future better.

Samoan Language Week

For this task we explored about Samoan tatau for Samoan language week. We designed a hand with some patterns that has a meaning towards your life. The patterns on the fingers are arrows and they represent protection including my past history. The 3 dots are jellyfish and they represent my past family history where they had to hunt for food. The jellyfish also represents my family members who have passed and their remembrance lies in the sea. The lines by the wrist is a braclet which symbolizes the waves and they push us foward to our future.

I found this activity interesting because I researched about the Samoan tatau and I symbolized a hand pattern towards my past, present, and future.

Addition Algorithm

LI: to calculate the sum of whole numbers using algorithm.

LI: carry numbers to the next column if needed.

For this task we revised on addition algorithm and explain how to solve addition algorithm. Algorithm is a form of way to solve addition, subtraction, and multiplication.  To solve this you need to align the numbers on top of each other in order by ones, tens, hundreds, and higher values. Start from the right and add the ones. Using the example in the DLO 8+4 equals to 12. you then put the 2 under the ones place and carry the 1 on top of the tens because it has changed its value.

I found this activity interesting because I tried to find a way to explain how to add numbers together using algorithm.

Nutrition Resources

For this activity we revised on Nutrition Resourse and made a DLO for food preportion. This DLO explains the amount you should eat a day. This DLO also has the types of food with valuable nutrition.  These food helps because they give you protein, improve your health, and give you enough energy for your body. Types of food like snacks and sweets are unhealthy for your body and can cause harm to your body if you eat to much. You should at least eat these foods as a treat snack when you are hungry when its not breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

I found this task interesting because I learned how much I should eat a day.

Howick Historical Village

For this task my class went to the Howick Historical Village to see what thing were in the past around the 1870s.

From their perspective on the day they did butter making, explored the village, and made olden day wood trolleys. For the butter they sung a rhyme while making the butter as the rhyme was made for how to make butter in the olden days. The olden days looked like a small twon village with olden day transports and enviroment.  The olden day wood trolleys were a plank of wood with wheels on the bottom. You control the trolley by using you feet to turn which is attached by a line with a wheel.

I enjoyed this task because I used my imagination on what happened on the day using a friend perspective when she went on the trip.

Sentence Structure

LI: to explore sentence structure

From this challenge I can see I have a clear understanding of simple sentence and compound sentence. I now need to focus on complex sentences. I know that a simple sentence has one independent clause that includes a noun and a verb. Eg: the cat sat on the mat. I know that compound sentence uses 2 independent clause and a conjunction/F.A.N.B.O.Y.S. For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. Eg: the cat sat on the mat and the dog sat by the fireplace. I know that a complex sentence includes a 1 independent clause and dependent clause while using an A.A.A.W.W.W.U.B.I.S. Eg: The cat sat on the mat because it was tired.

I enjoyed this activity because I improved my knowledge of the different types of sentence structure.

Simple & Compound Sentence

LI: To explore sentence structure.

For this task we explored the different types of sentence structure with room 6. Together we found how to write a simple sentence and compound sentence. The difference between a simple and compound sentence is that a simple sentence uses one idea with a verb and noun and a compound uses 2 ideas and a F.A.N.B.O.Y.S .

I found this activity interesting because this task was made by ideas from room 6.
